Allow me to go temper some cheese with this whine

This is the scene from my PB dashboard this morning. Record low temps and dangerous wind chills reaching -18. Come on Friday! Some random links for cold weather coping…
- Weather for Buffalo
- Cold weather tips for pet care at ASPCA
- Winter weather tips at the CDC
- Support for seasonal affective disorder at the Seasonal Affective Disorder Assn.
- Cold weather humor: An annotated thermometer in degrees Fahrenheit. I am substituting “Buffalonians” for “Minnesotans”. My favorite:
-
-40
- Californians disappear
- Car insists on sleeping in your bed with you
- Minnesotans (or Buffalonians) put on sweaters!
-
Yes, I know Minnesota has it worse. I don’t wish this on anyone! Wherever you may be, stay warm and safe everybody! Feel free to let me know of any good cold weather humor or other sites. My fingers are too cold to type any more!!! And no bragging, Dad!!!!!!!!!!!! ![]()

It’s soooo cold & windy here, too Jennimi - I hope you stay warm. BTW: I’ve heard the cold in MN is felt less because it’s dry there compared to here. This from two big old burly men from MN I used to work with, who were freezing their buns off here.

Brr. I feel cold just thinking about it.
Fortunately (unfortunately?) our winter appears to have disappeared entirely, replaced by four months of rain which — let’s face it — we’d have had anyway…
If it gets too cold I suppose you can always hide in the fridge, for warmth? :-/

@mon@rch - so true! But I take it back even further to the October Storm we had here. It was devastating and I don’t know if we ever bounced back. The temps warmed for awhile, but the landscape was sad and wounded. To anyone from outside of WNY: we do this thing where we complain when it’s too cold, and when it’s too hot. I don’t know, perhaps when things are beyond one’s control, it helps to be able to commiserate.
@Pam: I have relatives who live in Nevada, where they tell you, “Don’t worry, it’s a DRY heat”. The first summer trip back east they were like “Bah!!!! Hot is hot!” So I guess, cold is cold?
@Em… oh man. Wait a sec… I might take a dry Buffalo cold to a rainy UK March… hmmmmmm. Gonna hide in the fridge and ponder this.

On our wii, there is an interactive globe that displays the weather. I often “twirl” it to the east coast and noticed how cold it is there. I won’t tell you what the temp on my part of the globe is, but I know I couldn’t survive your cold weather. BTW, nice link to SAD and pet care tips!

The best thing in the whole world is this two-part sound: tiny, beautiful chiming then crunch of footfalls when walking through snow with a thin layer of freeze on top. That is the best thing in the whole world. And it’s whiter than whiter and the sky is blue or maybe it’s night.

One degree here today. And that was later in the AM. Who knows what it was when I woke up. But we had a snow day

I felt like crying as I was walking from my car to class yesterday, but the tears were frozen.

And it’s true, this Californian did disappear! To sunny, tropical NYC! But thank you for helping me stop feeling sorry for myself that it’s only 17 degrees here today. brrrrrr…not looking forward to my 15 min walk home from the subway after my 10pm ref desk shift!
